Sr. Director Health Systems Liaisons MD


The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Director Health Systems Liaisons Medical Doctor (MD), are to:

  • Recruit, develop and retain a high performing Health Systems Field Medical team;

  • Establish a strong, collaborative team culture and ensure team performance objectives are established and achieved according to Medical Affairs (MA) strategic priorities;

  • Work closely with IDN and Market Access account teams and leadership to define strategic objectives and compliant field collaboration/tactics to achieve team goals;

  • Execute a programmed approach for Health System/ Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) thought leader (TL) relationship development including but not limited to oversight of TL (e.g. Pharmacy Directors, Clinical Pharmacists, Vice Presidents (VP)/Director of Case Management, Chief Innovation Officers, VP/Directors of Quality and Safety, etc.) and engagement plans that align to institutional stakeholder prioritization;

  • Serve as oversight of relationships with population-based healthcare decision makers to facilitate scientific exchange on disease state management and the value of Bayer products, provide insights to internal teams on key evidence gaps relevant to healthcare decision makers, and to identify and facilitate research, education, and other collaborations;

  • Provide input on data generation or analysis activities by Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR), clinical development, and other internal stakeholders to inform optimal Health Systems understanding of Bayer products;

  • Ensure team develops and maintains credible relationships with key medical, pharmacy, Quality, and Population Health thought leaders within assigned accounts;

  • Ensure compliant collaboration and a cross-functional team approach to meet customer needs;

  • Provide insight, input and support towards development of Medical information and Health outcomes communication strategy and action planning for various healthcare organizations within United States Medical Affairs (USMA);

  • Develop and manage budget to support team projects and team T&E;

  • Ensure Field Medical Affairs team compliance with relevant policies, guidelines and Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) for interactions with Healthcare Professionals;

  • Support strategic cross-functional initiatives with Medical Associations and Professional Societies;

  • Provide medical input and training on U.S. Health Systems topics to a variety of internal stakeholders, as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical degree with at least 10 years of progressive managed care/health systems Medical Science Director/Liaison industry experience;

  • Relevant work experience at a health system/IDN may substitute for direct industry experience for candidates with at least five years of experience;

  • Proven track record of success, especially in the area of establishing relationships with Pharmacy, Quality, Population Health and Medical Thought leaders (TLs), professional Managed Care organizations, Quality Organizations (e.g. NCQA, NKF, NQF, PQA);

  • Strong understanding and experience managing people and cross-functional in remote locations;

  • Strong presentation skills;

  • Strong oral and written communication skills;

  • Commitment to provide leadership by example aligned with Bayer LIFE Values and Focus Behaviors;

  • Willingness to travel 60% or more of the worktime;

  • Scientific leadership in Field Medical Affairs and QVPH activities;

  • Exceptional analytical skills, including in-depth knowledge of PROs, claims database analysis methodologies, and real-world evidence generation relevant to payers and healthcare systems and FDA, OIG guidelines;

  • Be able to effectively communicate clinical, reimbursement value and outcomes assessments to internal and external stakeholders;

  • Manage and meet deadlines while working on multiple parallel projects and shift priorities as needed;

  • Strong attention to detail, strategic orientation, proactive outlook, and the ability to lead projects through to completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in Diabetes, Cardiology and/or Renal Therapeutic Areas.
