Job Description

Job Summary:

Sr. Business Architects are experts at their product portfolio. The senior business architect is a first touch point on complex programs after initial prioritization. They review or create the initial high level requirements and help to identify the impacted teams. The Sr. Business Architect provides consulting support to ensure the solutions being designed and developed by the project team meet the business need and the desired value is achieved. The Sr. Business Architect is also responsible for coordinating the creation of a business driven technology roadmap for their portfolio. This is a Director equivalent individual contributor role.


  • Responsible for architecting business solutions for each of the functional areas within their product portfolio,

  • Responsible for understanding dependencies between products required to deliver the business solution

  • Assesses complex program requests to validate value to be delivered and impacted metrics. Determines high level impact areas.

  • Works closely with senior leaders inside and outside IT and across business communities in understanding complex business problems and identifying potential technology solutions

  • Responsible for taking a complicated request and simplifying it to maximize the business value that a project produces in alignment with agile processes.

  • Collaborates with Business and/or Solution Analysts to develop business solutions

  • Leads cross-functional, cross portfolio and product line teams for developing impact assessment and creating high level requirements. Works with the portfolio/product line teams to decompose the requirements into portfolio/product line impacts in alignment with agile processes. Works with product lines and others as needed to identify team level impacts. Works in conjunction with security, legal, compliance, operations and engineering.

  • Designs, develops, modifies and adapts short- and long-term complex, cross functional solutions to information technology (IT) assessing new and existing applications and systems architecture.

  • Partners with solution architecture to analyze and solve complex problems, making recommendations as needed, applying creative, in-depth technical and theoretical knowledge.

  • Works with emerging technologies to assess viability for solving business problems.

  • Drives the creation of business driven technology roadmaps and ensures TCO is maintained in partnership with business partners and AIS.

  • Meets with fellow Sr. Business Architects regularly to align on strategy and process

Fundamental Skills & Abilities:

  • Understand a business unit’s desired end state business model including business strategy, offerings, operations and structure.

  • Identify core business capabilities and processes, the entities that interact with those capabilities, and the interactions between these core business capabilities

  • Gather, analyze and articulate high-level business capabilities & requirements

  • Decompose a business request into meaningful capabilities and processes

  • Facilitate discussions with senior executives to define the Business Architecture

  • Identify the logical technology components that support the Business Architecture

  • Excellent understanding of Software development life cycle

  • Excellent ability to derive business value from project requests

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, prioritization and relationship management skills

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, judgment and decision making skills

  • Excellent communication skills: oral, written, presentation and facilitation skills

  • Ability to produce high quality work products under pressure and within deadlines.

  • Ability to construct an approach/plan for the execution of priorities

  • Ability to manage high performing individual contributors



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering/computer science or related field preferred or equivalent work experience

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience devising and deploying solution designs and/or software development preferred

  • Experience working in a large global IT environment strongly preferred

  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience and two years of leadership experience required.

  • Must have experience at a large technology products and services organization.

  • Ideal candidate possesses at least four years of consecutive relationship management experience

  • 5 years or more experience in an information technology discipline with increasing responsibility.

  • Ideal candidate will have played as a key architect leadership role with an “as-a-service” technology vendor

  • Healthcare IT experience preferred

  • Agile experience preferred

  • Agile at scale experience preferred
