IBM OpenTech Data/AI Developer Advocate Community Lead in St Louis, Missouri

We are seeking an experienced developer advocate community leader, for open source technologies in data management systems area, with deep knowledge of IBM Watson Data Platform. Ability to co-organize tech conference and meetups. Capable of advocating for and enhancing content for IBM Code code patterns, blogs, social media, events, open source contributions content. Excellent written and spoken communications skills required to plan, run, and document events, including OpenTech Data/AI mini-conferences and meetups. Ability write and publish Medium blog posts.

To help IBM's clients lead and further grow IBM's technical eminence in open communities, we are building and expanding an elite team of open source technology developer advocates working with developers and others to democratize data science and artificial intelligence. The team will strive to advocate for open technologies and IBM offerings that help developer learn faster as well as be more productive and creative, especially for end-to-end enterprise solutions.

The team will engage directly in open source community advocacy projects relevant to a wide array of IBM offerings and industries around the globe, and internally to IBM's transformation to a data-driven cognitive enterprise. The elite team of open source developer advocates and content editors will work with other IBMers, IBM Research, and open source community members on great content and events, and share their content and code on Github and on IBM Code website. The team will engage the broader development community, and enable IBM offering managers to solve problems in health care, education, banking, insurance, manufacturing, oil & gas and automotive & robotics industries, to name a few.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Write and edit great content and test code for key open source communities and advocate for it at community activities.

  2. Champion events for developer advocates for open source technologies and related IBM offering

  3. Organize community activities to democratize building tools, launching new open source projects, and improving existing core open source frameworks

  4. Organize community activities and write about efforts to improve the productivity of developers and domain experts by expanding usage of data management systems and AI in industries

  5. Gain eminence in the community by socializing your work, and speaking at open source developer and IBM events.

  6. Work with offering managers and product teams on community activities related to applications

  7. Produce community activities that can guide and mentor clients to become self-sufficient open source developers

  8. Be authentic; mentor others, and be open to mentoring by others (lifelong learning)

  9. Read and comment on more code and content than you write; fix documentation, improve test cases, code around the edges when needed

While working across a range of open source communities and interacting with organizations such as the Linux Foundation and Apache Foundation, you will also get to travel the World for speaking at meetings and events, as well as advocating for IBM code patterns as a trusted brand for open source developers.

As a member of the team you will have a T-shaped skill set, having a broad communications skills and deep open source developer advocacy content editor skills.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • At least 2 years experience – Open Source Community Leader, Apache committership, experienced Github user

  • At least 1 year experience – Events and Blogging

  • At least 1 year experience - Systems Knowledge: IBM Watson Data Platform, Data engine, Query Processing & Optimizer, Developer Productivity, QA, Agile development, Community Building.

  • Programming languages: Java, Python, Scala, SQL, JavaScript, Linux shell scripting

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • At least 2 years experience - Computer Science, Data Science

  • At least 2 years experience - Data Management Systems and

  • At least 1 years experience - Blog Author, Business and Leadership experiences,

  • At least 1 year experience - JanusGraph, Hbase,

  • Programming languages: C/C++, Ruby,
