Job Description

World Wide Technology, Inc. is currently seeking an Open Infrastructure Practice Manager to lead our open infrastructure business. This resource will be responsible for defining our open systems strategy and for building/executing our open infrastructure business plan. This strategic position will report to the VP, Open Systems and Solutions who reports to WWT's Chief Technology Officer.

In building our open infrastructure business plan, the practice manager will determine the existing open infrastructure capabilities, products, solutions, and services that WWT can profitably deliver to the industry based on WWT's unique assets, including our Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and our Integration Technology Center (ITC). In addition, the practice manager will recommend new open infrastructure capabilities, products, solutions, and services in which WWT could potentially invest and/or partner to profitably deliver. The practice manager will also be responsible for enabling our regional technical and sales field resources, and support strategic sales opportunities, including scale-out computing solutions in the Web Services, Service Provider, and Global Financial markets.

In collaboration with the VP of Open System and Solutions and other WWT executives, including WWT sales and services leadership, the practice manager will:

  • Select and develop deep relationships with the partners and communities that support our open infrastructure business plan

  • Define the go-to-market strategy for WWT's open infrastructure business, specifically focusing on WWT's ability to validate complex solutions in our ATC and to integrate those solutions for deployment in our Integration Technology Center (ITC).

  • Define the field enablement strategy for WWT's open infrastructure business

  • Build and maintain executive relationships with WWT's largest open infrastructure customers

  • Collaborate with our professional services organization to define the strategy for growing our open infrastructure services business.

  • Collaborate with other WWT global engineering teams to create higher-level solutions.

  • Manage open infrastructure certification requirements to maintain partner status.


At least 3 years building and executing successful business plans in the open infrastructure space

At least ten years leading highly technical resources in the successful delivery of innovative capabilities, products, solutions and services to customers

Superior leadership, communications, organizational, and conflict resolution skills

At least 3 years architecting and/or operating open infrastructure technologies and products such as:

  • Linux, Ubuntu, RHEL


  • OVS, OVN, network overlays (e.g. Calico) and SD-WAN

  • Ansible, Ansible Tower

  • Openstack, Red Hat Openstack Platform (OSP)

  • Ceph, Gluster, and Swift/Swiftstack

  • Kubernetes, Openshift, and CoreOS

Knowledge of and engagement with key open source communities

  • Open Compute Project (OCP) and Rack19

  • Distributed Management Task Force -- Redfish and OpenBMC

  • Linux Foundation

  • Open Networking Foundation

  • Openstack Foundation

  • Cloud Native Computing Foundation

  • Open Software Defined Storage

At least 5 years of experience architecting and/or deploying compute, storage, and networking solutions, including the following technologies and products:

  • Servers -- Cisco UCS, HPE ProLiant, Dell EMC PowerEdge, SMC, QCT. Familiarity with Intel, AMD and ARM architectures and an understanding of the pros and cons of each is highly desired. An understanding of NUMA is also desired.

  • Storage -- NetApp, Dell EMC, HPE, Pure, Nimble, IBM. An understanding of Experience with LVM, XFS, EXT4, MDADM, and other Open Source filesystem models is desired.

  • Networking -- Cisco, Juniper, HPE, Dell EMC, Whitebox hardware using Broadcom Tomahawk 2 chips, and open network operating systems (NOS).

  • A basic understanding of Open Source Hyper-converged architectures such as Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure (RHCI).

Knowledge of core open infrastructure technologies, capabilities, and processes:

  • REST APIs and creating/manipulating YAML

  • Scripting (Python, Linux Shell/Bash or Ruby)

  • Github

  • CI/CD (Jenkins, TravisCI, Go CD or GitLab)

  • Dev Ops (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Terraform, Promethus or Stackify)

  • Message Brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka, ActiveMQ, Kestrel or SQS)

  • A general knowledge of public cloud consumption models and how they compare to private cloud counterparts.

  • A background integrating Open Source technologies into multi-vendor environments.

Superior organizational, conflict resolution, time management and negotiation skills are required.
