Monsanto Intern: Data Quality in St. Louis, Missouri

Position Overview:We are seeking a motivated data scientist to explore insights and predictive relationships across diverse data sources, including Climate’s unique precision machine data layers and business analytics. The successful candidate will help translate key data quality requirements into a broader context, then devise methods for targeting and improving data with links to clear value creation. The project for this internship will be a blend of data analytics, business intelligence, and modeling.This position will be under the Data Quality team within our Science organization with significant exposure to various data, marketing, and product teams.   • Dealing with new exciting datasets that will transform agriculture!

  • Work cross-functionally across teams in science, product, and marketing.

  • Develop in-demand “big data” skill sets (Spark, data visualization, data-driven storytelling, data munging).

  • Engage in active research projects and produce clear, coherent technical reports, presentations and research documents in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Exploratory data analysis of the broader implications of data quality rules across crowd-sourced agronomic datasets.

  • Develop business intelligence algorithm for data quality based targeting.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidates should be capable of independent research; Actively pursuing an MS or Ph.D. in Applied Math, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Physics or a related quantitative discipline.

  • Familiarity with statistical software (Python/R) or Scala.

  • Familiarity with SQL syntax and query logic.

  • Strong data analytical skills and working experience in analyzing complex data sets, feature engineering, and machine learning.

  • Strong ability to translate business problems into research initiatives that deliver business value.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge base in geospatial or agricultural data principles and domain, data visualization, and automating complex data workflows.

  • Background and experience in spatio-temporal statistics and modeling of multi-layered geospatial data.

  • Experience with application of statistics to environmental or agricultural problems is a plus

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities
