Director of IT

Location: St. Louis, MO


The IT Director is responsible for all corporate information technology activities, including desktop support, network infrastructure, data center activities, application development / management and internal reporting capabilities. Oversees the strategic relationship between information technology and other functions within the organization. Maintains awareness of developments in information technology and computer hardware and software for the formulation of long and short-term plans for the acquisition and implementation of new equipment and techniques. Reports to management on information technology plans, projects, performance and related matters. Provides functional and strategic direction to the IT team and management throughout the organization.

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Oversee all technology operations across North America and China, including desktop support, network infrastructure, data center activities business intelligence and application development / management

  • Design and establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by upper management

  • Analyze the business requirements of all departments to determine and meet technology needs

  • Manage purchasing activities related to technology equipment and software

  • Recognize and understand new technologies that can help the company meet long-term strategic objectives and regularly communicate this information to key managers and executives to insure planned IT improvements align with business strategies and available resources.

  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for technology spending and initiatives

  • Lead and manage high leverage IT projects that are strategic in nature or have an immediate high return on investment

  • Ensures confidentiality and reliability of corporate data, proprietary information, and intellectual property

  • Invest in relationship building with external contractors, channel partners and other vendors

  • Participate in customer integration projects to provide innovative solutions that meet daily communication and transactional needs

  • Manage all aspects of functional level processes, including team structure and development, IT strategic planning, functional budget process and quarterly functional reporting to executive team

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Proven experience as IT Director or similar role; manufacturing company experience preferred

  • Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications

  • Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks, etc.

  • Experience in management of information technology budget

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills

  • Significant Project Management experience, including strategic level project implementations

  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization

  • BS/BA in computer science or relevant field; MS/MA will be a plus
