IBM Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is a team dedicated to ensuring that the IBM Cloud is at the forefront of cloud technology, from data center design to network architecture to storage and compute clusters to flexible infrastructure services. We are building IBM's next generation cloud platform to deliver performance and predictability for our customers' most demanding workloads, at global scale and with leadership efficiency, resiliency and security. We are looking for a DevOps / Release Engineering manager to join our team in Littleton, MA, Poughkeepsie-NY or Austin TX. You will contribute to a thriving and growing DevOps Engineering team. You will work in a Kubernetes based micro services environment to support our bleeding edge cloud services. This will include custom solutions, as well as open source DevOps tools (build and deploy automation, monitoring and data gathering for our software delivery pipeline). You will also be contributing to our continuous improvement and continuous delivery while increasing maturity of DevOps and agile adoption practices.

The successful candidate will work as a leader within the Platform Services group of IaaS performing the following key responsibilities :

  • Manage a department that consists of HostOS and Kubernetes CICD efforts, as well as Release Management delivering features and code though our Integration, Staging and Production pipeline.

  • Manage a team of full-time employees, contractors and matrix reporting employees in India.

  • Work closely with all teams across the entire IaaS organization to ensure that the overall DevOps strategies are well communicated and understood.

  • Collaborate closely with CI, CD and Virtual Environment squads and their DevOps manager to increase the knowledge and performance of the collective DevOps team.

  • Work with resource and schedule constraints to deliver the business and technical results.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • A proven track record of technical and people management leadership, ability to coordinate the growth and development of several globally distributed scrum teams.

  • A deep understanding of DevOps principles and methodologies, with 5+ years of hands on experience in DevOps / Release Engineering.

  • Experience with Linux OS internals, Linux packaging and security hardening.

  • Experience with microservices architecture, Kubernetes and Docker containers

  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (Concourse CI, Travis, Jenkins, Artifactory, Nexus)

  • Experience with one or more of following languages (Python, shell, bash, Go , Java

  • 2+ years of people management experience.

  • Experience with Agile concepts and tools for project management

  • Understanding of issues related to security and compliance

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Knowledge of Linux OS scanning, Nessus, CIS Benchmarks and regulated control sets

  • Knowledge of Networking and network configuration skills (TCP/IP, HTTP, etc.)

  • Knowledge and familiarity with virtualization
