Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM’s Communications Enablement Team is looking for a highly motivated and resourceful colleague to join our quick-thinking, creative and agile group as a Competitive Intelligence lead. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting IBM’s global Communications & Citizenship Function by monitoring, analyzing and anticipating the competitive landscape. You will be a voracious consumer of news with an ability to identify where, when and how to outperform the competition that supports IBM’s growth strategy. You’ll think proactively about how to amplify IBM’s strengths and opportunities in order to reinforce its competitive differentiation and reputational capital. Along the way, you’ll be exposed to various parts of IBM’s business, learn about breakthrough innovations like quantum computing and hybrid cloud, and collaborate with some of the smartest, hardworking colleagues in the game today.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Lead the team’s competitive intelligence gathering, analysis and implementation
Monitor news cycles, competitor efforts and industry trends to help identify and anticipate new opportunities
Understand the variables and attributes that can affect share of voice, and how to influence them
Coordinate with the extended Marketing and Communications team to share information and best practices that help inform and improve our strategy and execution
Develop ideas and tactics that differentiate IBM’s technology, expertise and leadership around key growth areas such as cloud and AI
Serve as a trusted advisor and collaborator with business unit, market and specialty teams to provide a competitive edge
Implement processes that improve efficiency and reduce administrative burden
Location Preference: NYC
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Approximately 7+ years of corporate communications and PR experience, ideally within the technology industry and an organization with a global presence
Working knowledge of the enterprise tech marketplace, the key players and their SWOTs
Strong relationships with media and analysts that cover the enterprise tech market
Excellent research and analysis proficiency with the ability to present complex topics in a clear and concise manner
Understanding of evolving communications trends with an emphasis on media, measurement and analytics
Superb written and verbal communication skills
Strong project management experience and ability to multitask across several projects at once
Proficient with research tools and resources including Factiva, analyst reports, LexisNexis, etc.
Thrives in a fast-paced environment, working with a variety of teams and organizational levels
Demonstrates initiative, accountability and flexibility in pursuing assignments
