AMRI Automation and Controls Engineer in Springfield, Missouri

Oversees and manages the process control network operations in a cGMP environment, effectively controlling the chemical processes at the site, and in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations. Develop and implement new control systems (software and hardware) for new projects and improvements for existing ones as financially justified.

_MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES_:

A. _Essential_functional duties of the position-

· Function as system administrator for the process control network. Responsible for system (1) integrity, (2) security, (3) training, (4) maintenance, (5) archiving, and (6) upgrades. The process control network must comply with cGMP regulations.

· Evaluate, model, and perform needed process design calculations for new processes to the site. This includes, among others, mass and energy balances, cycle times, heat transfer calculations and scale up considerations.

· Seek approval for suggested change(s), modify PLC software after approved, modify existing Graphical User Interface (GUI), validate change, and train all necessary operators.

· Supervise and oversee the installation of automation projects.

· Integrate automation into chemical processes to optimize financial performance.

· Develop PLC and Graphical User Interface (GUI) software for projects.

· Maintain and enforce PLC, PC, and GUI standards for the process control network.

· Troubleshoot the process control network software, hardware, and field instrumentation.

· Perform and document preventative maintenance for the control system software and hardware. Educate maintenance on preventive maintenance practices as they relate to testing production vessels.

· Monitor, test, and install (where justifiable) new developments in the automation field for new or existing processes.

· Author or review instructions (batch sheets, SOP’s) as necessary to ensure safe operations while following “Management of Change” protocols.

· Supports Continuous Improvement activities at the site.

· Ability to use Rockwell RSLogix5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000 Software, Rockwell FactoryTalk View and Red Lion Software. Should be familiar with Rockwell Panelview Builder Software, Rockwell RSSQL and Rockwell RSView32

B. Other responsibilities/accountabilities-

· Serve as an information resource for the other site functions (e.g. environmental, project engineering production).

· Support operators and supervisors as they request assistance on a daily basis. Provide start-up coverage as required.

· Advises Site Management on costs for maintaining the process control network.

· Capable of tuning control loops and systems for stable performance.

· Actively participates inParticipate in HAZOP’s or PHA’s with the goal of safe operation of the facility.

· 100% compliance with cGMP regulations for the process control network.

_RELEVANT QUANTITATIVE DIMENSIONS:_

· Manages capital projects, generally in a range of $15k to $500k

· Administers up to six projects concurrently.

· Prepares cost estimates within /- 10% of actual project cost.

· Manages project schedules to within 10% of original schedule, excluding external delays.

_PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:_

· BS in Engineering field (preferably Chemical).

· Five to ten years relevant experienceor training in FDA, EPA, and OSHA regulated chemicals manufacturing, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Demonstrated interpersonal skills.

· Proven negotiating skills.

· Computer literate with a functional ability with SAP, word processing, spreadsheets, project scheduling, database and presentation software.

· Ability to use CAD; however, aptitude and willingness to be trained in CAD based design development is essential.

· Familiarity with GMPs, process validation, environmental, health and safety standards.

· Ability to install, program, and troubleshoot PLC’s.

· Ability to program and design graphical user interfaces.

· Ability to interface typical process instrumentation (such as temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, level indicators, etc.) with the process control network.

· Demonstrated leadership abilities (programs, projects).

· Excellent communication skills, including problem solving and analytical skills, technical report writing, and presentation skills.
