The Boeing Company Configuration Design Engineer-1 in Saint Louis, Missouri
The Boeing Company is seeking a Configuration Design Engineer-1 to support a variety of Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) programs including Phantom Works programs to participate in planning and performing synthesis of conceptual/preliminary aerospace/aeronautical vehicles. The successful candidate will assist in the conceptual design and integration of key technologies into innovative vehicle configurations to meet customer requirements. They will assist in trade studies for performance, structural adequacy, cost effectiveness and regulatory requirements and work under close supervision. This position is located in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Assist in the development of aircraft conceptual layout, sizing and vehicle synthesis studies
Assist in the coordination and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams to define and balance requirements, specifications, and design criteria among disciplines
Assist in the development and maturation of innovative solutions to solve complex challenges while balancing the needs of customers and key stakeholders
Assist in vehicle system and component integration studies.
Assist in conducting design of experiments and aircraft optimization studies using multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization techniques (MDAO)
Assist in communication and collaboration with internal and external customers.
Assist in vehicle and system level trade studies and analysis to understand the impact of key design decisions

This position requires an active Current Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
This position requires an active US Secret Security Clearance or above with an investigation date within the past 6 years. Applicants should include their security clearance level, investigation type and investigation date clearly on their resume.
Broad multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge with an emphasis on aerospace/aeronautical disciplines (e.g., aerodynamics, propulsion, orbital mechanics, structures, material properties, weight and balance, systems, human factors and interfaces, mission systems, survivability, etc.)
Ability to visualize in 3D and have a strong CAD background (Siemens NX and/or CATIA V5 preferred).
Background in Systems Engineering and assisting in systems engineering trades and design studies to understand the impact of requirements to the design, cost, weight, schedule, performance and other engineering disciplines
Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration
Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives, apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools.
Highly flexible individual with an ability to adapt to a wide variety of assignments, teams, and organization Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- An Engineering degree
Typical Education and Experience: Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
