Job Title

Manager, Software Development Engineering

Overview:

As a Manager of Software Engineering on the Mastercard Smart Data Insights team, you’ll bring your expertise leading and coaching high-performing software and data engineers to create world-class data solutions. You will support the Smart Data enterprise platform with innovative solutions that move the Mastercard business forward, and you will contribute directly to the launch of a global Reporting & Analytics commercial Insights platform to simplify payments, monitor expenses, and for making smarter business decisions. As a global business, the team you lead for Mastercard will deliver software operating at-scale, requiring focus on performance, security, and reliability.

You will work in our Mastercard Operations and Technology headquarter in O’Fallon MO, that provides a state-of-the-art environment for technology teams to thrive in our collaborative, Agile engineering culture. You will be a leader in how Mastercard leverages ETL to transform Oracle, SQL Server, and legacy data into deeper, more meaningful insights for our clients.

Role:

•Single-threaded owner of a 2-pizza team of software and test automation engineers

•Recruit, supervise, and coach a cross-functional team, including the active support & development of junior engineers

•Monitor objectives for your teams to align with sprint goals and priorities

•Be a significant, hands-on contributor to the team to plan, design, and develop ETL and data prep solutions

•Deliver code with exceptional quality and security that operates at scale.

•Perform code reviews, retrospectives, and manage the acceptance of Pull Requests using Git

•Collaborate with TPMs, PM-Ts, and product owners to bring to life amazing new service capabilities

•Coach your team in engineering best practices, including 12-factor app design

•Coach your team on Agile practices, including Daily Scrums, retrospectives, planning, and grooming sessions, to operate and thrive as a high-performing team

•Ensure that systems your team creates comply with Mastercard engineering best practices and governance models, including security, operations, and Enterprise Architecture requirements

All About You:

•You have a solid foundation in Computer Science fundamentals, data engineering, and microservices-based software architecture

•You have demonstrated experience leading & managing software and test engineers working in a cross-functional, Agile software development lifecycle practice

•You have experience with ETL and big data tools/technologies, such as Informatica, PowerCenter, Hadoop and PL/SQL

•You have experience with database design techniques along with optimization techniques such as indexing, tuning, hints and profiles

•You have experience working with data semantic layer and/or various DBMSs in an Enterprise capacity

•You have deep experience with unit testing and successfully deploying schema objects in a continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) model

•You enjoy leading and working in an Agile environment focused on continuous improvement

•You have a strong desire to collaborate and provide coaching & mentorship to software engineers

•You have demonstrated experience as a people manager with the ability to attract, recruit, and develop technical talent

•You are passionate about the art of delivering the highest quality software to customers and doing the right thing

•You have excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical people
