Citi Consumer Technology is seeking talented college students for its STEP 2 internship program in Dallas, Texas, Jacksonville, Fla., and Sioux Falls, S.D.
STEP 2 is intended for the summer before your final year of college, and high-performing STEP 2s will receive full-time job offers for after graduation. (There’s also a STEP 1 program for students who are earlier in their college careers.)
STEP 2 interns are with us from June 3 until August 9, and this isn’t going to be 10 weeks of making copies or coffee runs, we want you to make a difference.
You’ll do that through your main role — where you’re plugged into a team of full-time employees and treated as a member of their team — as well as through a side project that you’ll complete with other interns.
Last summer’s STEP 2s worked in a variety of roles, including software developers, product managers, project managers, software architects, data analysts and more. And for side projects, they tackled a wide range of challenges like facial recognition, internal productivity tools, and an automated dashboard that wound up catching the attention of executives (seriously, it was a big deal).
We’re proud to say that they made a meaningful impact, we missed them when they left, and we can’t wait to welcome many of them back as full-time employees.
While the roles and side projects for this summer aren’t defined yet, we’ll be working to come up with some that accomplish three goals: make an impact, develop your technical skills, and broaden your network.
The best way to think about Citi Consumer Technology is that we’re a tech company inside a bank. We develop software that has a variety of end users: mobile apps and websites that help our customers manage their money, desktop software that allows our customer service agents to provide help and advice, and internal databases, microservices or tools that teams at Citi rely upon every day.
An effective STEP 2 internship should help fill out your resume and prepare you for what’s next. Our goal is to expose you to as many teams and people as we can, so you can pick up new skills and find out what types of roles you’re most interested in for the future.
After a successful STEP 2 internship, you can qualify for one of our full-time programs and positions for after graduation: either the Technology Engineering Program (TEP) or the Technology Leadership Program (TLP).
During the summer, we’ll have plenty of social and networking events between you, other interns and the TEPs and TLPs so you can decide whether those programs are a fit for you down the road.
And at the end of the 10 weeks, we’ll have an intern conference where all the STEP 2s get together at one of our offices to present their side projects, participate in a hackathon, and have some fun.
This is a paid internship, 40 hours per week, with working hours roughly from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The dress code is relaxed (jeans are fine), there’s a ping-pong table, and building friendships with your coworkers is highly encouraged.
You’ll have a manager for your main role, a “buddy” who helps you get logged in and set up during the first few weeks, and a program manager who holds regular 1:1s with you to make sure we’re delivering the experience we promised you.
Our main sites are Dallas, Texas, Jacksonville, Fla., and Sioux Falls, S.D. Each of these are large offices filled with fantastic people who want to help you succeed. We’d love for you to meet them, and to introduce you to the cultures and lifestyles of the cities we call home.
While most of your time will be spent problem-solving, this is a highly collaborative environment that will also make use of your communication and influencing skills. Whether you’re working with a project manager to set a realistic deadline, helping demo a product, or working with teammates to get something done, we need people who can clearly communicate technical concepts, be great teammates, and influence without authority. You’ll be entrusted with meaningful work that impacts our customers, and you’ll be empowered to suggest new ideas.
The Most Important Thing
We believe bright people can learn new things, so while the qualifications below are important, there is one that we absolutely will not compromise on: attitude.
STEP 2s are great teammates who are excited to learn new things, motivated to contribute, and eager to collaborate — not compete — with others. We’ve worked hard to build a supportive family environment, and we’re proud to say that candidates and new hires consistently notice it.
This is a place where people look out for one other, build relationships, and help each other succeed.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to have you here!
