Our work depends on a Database Analyst joining our team to support Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) for the United States Postal Service (USPS) activities located remotely.

You will be responsible for managing the design, planning, implementation, and administration of databases, including security, access, and documentation.

  • Analyzing customer requirements and provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate complexity.

  • Supporting the design, development, build, analysis, evaluation, installation, and administration of database management systems.

  • Assisting with the design and implementation of databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, ETL tasks, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods

  • Supporting the preparation of system requirements, source analysis, and process analyses and design throughout the database implementation.

  • Defining database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation.

  • Supporting the development of database standards, policies, and SOPs and ensures their conformance with the USPS goals and company/customer objectives

  • Administrative database activities including; installation, configuration, monitoring, space management, database backup and recovery, and disaster recovery

  • Responsibility for 24X7 production and maintenance support on a rotation basis for all database stand alone and clustered instances

  • Responsibility for monitoring database server health, disk performance, monitoring, and history.

  • Determining database software requirements for the development of business information systems meeting customer needs.

  • Providing technical expertise to system professionals engaged in the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of business information systems.

  • Identifying and evaluate database software components, interfaces, and performance criteria for proposed business information systems.

  • Working with computer security personnel to develop and implement procedures for database security.

  • Working with internal counterparts and vendors for solutions to database problems; works with headquarters on matters related to standards and policies, and with other IS service center organizations and production operations regarding operations and system capabilities.

  • Developing and implementing of procedures for creation, backup, recovery, and re-organization of databases.

  • Establishing and implementing procedures for capturing database management system utilization and performance statistics.

  • Developing logical and physical design/re-design of databases for existing or proposed business information systems and establishes local database standards, guidelines, and naming conventions.

  • Working with members of information system development teams to determine software use and access requirements

  • Developing and implements procedures for capacity planning, monitoring DBMS integrity, and ensuring corporate and ISSC repositories are updated.

  • Upgrading and patching databases

  • Implementing change requests (code updates, configuration changes, etc.)

  • Troubleshooting performance issues

  • Supporting system restoration and cloning

  • Updating and maintaining documentation

  • Supporting disaster recovery testing


  • BA/BS (or equivalent experience)

  • 4+ years of experience as database base administrator for large and complex databases in production environment (Oracle on UNIX environment)

Please Note: The security clearance for this program requires the selected candidate to have resided in the US for the past five years. The selected candidate cannot have left the country for longer than 90 consecutive days and no more than 180 cumulative days.
