GEHA Manager, Automation and Release in Lee’s Summit, Missouri

The Automation and Release Manager’s role is to develop, establish, and transform quality assurance automation and automated build and release for the information technology services within the organization. The Manager of Automation and Release manages a team of QA automation developers and release engineers guiding them in technical leadership and strategic direction. This person will enhance automated testing into a continuous and efficient end-to-end quality engineering function through the use of automated quality processes, tools, and methodologies significantly improving reliability, stability, accuracy, integrity and efficiency in the build and release and QA automation processes.

Reports to the Director of Governance and Quality. Directs and manages a staff QA automation developers and release engineers. Primary internal contacts are GEHA IT Senior Leadership, business unit leaders, key department employees, and staff.

SKILLS

KEY DUTIES:

  • Lead development of an organization-wide strategy and roadmap to transform QA test automation in support of a Build / Test / Release automation model.

  • Lead a team of QA automation developers and release engineers. Responsible for managing staff selection, development and performance.

  • Train, coach, and mentor staff. Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of test automation and build and release best practices.

  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and implements test and release automation systems and procedures to meet user requirements, integrating to CI/CD platforms

  • Champion agile principles and values within and across cross functional teams.

  • Define and apply established metrics to determine the readiness, quality, and operability of software, systems, and products due for release.

  • Interface with all technical teams to determine and establish processes for continuous integration and continuous deployments, incorporating automated test and release management principles.

  • Understand and recommend branch strategies preferably for Azure DevOps and Git.

  • Lead and improve automation efficiencies in test automation and build and release management.

  • Federate technical team automation of testing and release management through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

  • Support policies and procedures, KPIs, KRIs and metrics to ensure success criteria is measurable and supports GEHA’s accountability and transparency values and principles.

  • Develops an environment that promotes innovation, automation and efficiency.

  • Keep track of emerging test and release automation technologies and when required, helps implement them in the organization

  • Protects the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our members and employees information.

  • Provides IT-related project support.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. Additional years of qualifying experience may be considered in lieu of formal education and certification requirements.

  • Requires three to five years of managerial experience along with IT support

  • Prefer four to six years of experience in technology development which may include using .NET technologies (C#), Open source tools like Selenium, SQL development (SQL Server. SSRS and SSIS).

  • Proven ability to manage and build a cohesive team.

  • Preferred experience in implementing a DevOps teams and methodology.

  • Experience in Cloud based deployment environments and tools. Including IaC, YAML, Docker, containerization and micro-services

  • Must have self-development skills to maintain knowledge of current and upcoming technologies

  • Experience in designing and writing test automation scripts for on-prem, and cloud based software

  • Experience in build, release and deploy. Creation of a central automated deployment process.

  • Direct hands-on experience with automated testing tools, and reporting software.

  • Requires the ability to multi-task effectively, responding to changing business priorities and deadlines and to work collaboratively with team members across multiple divisions and departments

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required, including the ability to explain technology topics in both technical and business terms.

  • Ability to establish rapport with leaders, build consensus and foster collaboration across multiple teams.

  • Excellent coaching, listening, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps is preferred.

  • Experience in practicing Agile Testing is preferred.
