Job Summary / Purpose

The Director, Project Oversight and Delivery is responsible for the delivery, oversight and overall success of Ascension Technologies (AT) projects and programs, ensuring each one will be delivered successfully and add the highest possible value to the organization. Has oversight for Project Delivery Oversight; Project Delivery Quality; Scalable PMO Methodology, Process & Procedure; PMO Training; Project Governance and Prioritization; Tool Strategy and implementation; Program and Portfolio Reporting; Portfolio Management.

Supervises a team of Program Directors, Managers, Senior Specialists and Project Specialist to provide the framework that ensures successful project delivery. Develops and maintains reporting and metrics that inform management on project and program progress and performance. Implements process and procedures that identify project and program issues and works collaboratively to address them using appropriate escalation process. Constantly evaluates the environment and makes recommendations on methodology, best practices and tool sets and then develops and executes plans to deliver on those recommendations. Oversees the project quality function that ensures projects deliver to the expected outcome on time and on budget. Ensures organizations project capabilities are appropriately trained and supported to ensure successful project delivery. Discovers ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Operates at a strategic level in collaboration with Ascension senior leaders and executives providing oversight and governance to ensure AT projects delivery against their expected outcomes of scope, schedule, cost and quality.

  • Responsible for identifying and developing robust project related reporting that drive business decisions

  • Develops and monitors project quality control metrics that identify troubled projects that are out of tolerance. Works with the project teams, AT leadership and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to get the projects back on track

  • Oversee the adherence to the AT project methodology and develops metrics that identify non compliant projects and Project Managers that are out of tolerance. Works with them to correct behavior.

  • Constantly evaluate the methodology and make changes/ adjustments as necessary based on lessons learned and evolving business needs.

  • Oversees the function that develops, delivers, continuously evolves and updates Project Manager training and development.

  • Oversees, monitors, update and delivers Project Methodology and other necessary training i.e. process, procedures and tools to allow current and new Project Managers to be successful in their project delivery

  • Assess Project Management best practices both internally through collaboration with AT stakeholders and externally against industry peers and makes recommendations to improve the ability of the organization to improve project delivery. Develops plans to implement approved changes.

  • Oversees the project management tool set, making recommendations on what parts of the vendors road map to adopt. Constantly assess the tool set environment to make recommendations for ongoing evolution and addition to the PM toolset. Develops communication, training and rollout plans to assist users in moving up the learning curve.

  • Uses program and project metrics to assess progress and drive project implementation. Manages issues and risks that impact progress. Drives process improvements based on lessons learned and root cause analysis.

  • Manages the project prioritization process including on going assessment of the process and scoring and making improvements to meet evolving business needs. Provides reporting to drive visibility and awareness.

  • Manages the Portfolio Management function by which the project population is assessed, prioritized, implemented and monitored.

  • Must have a strategic mindset as well as be able to lead, mentor and develop team members.

  • Responsible for all department functions associated with the Program Delivery department

  • Proven project or program management experience with ability to handle multiple tasks (Project management degree/diploma/certification would be an advantage)

    Required Education and Experience

    10+ years in Program/ Project Management / Project Management Office functions

    7 years relevant Technical and business experience

    5 years Information Technology Leadership experience

    Required Licensure and Certifications

    1 relevant professional qualification i.e. ITIL, PMP etc.

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

    Previous experience in Healthcare IT

    Significant experience using and optimizing Project Management tools. Experience with ServiceNow ITBM and reporting capabilities a strong desire

    Experience in delivering projects and managing programs

    Experience in implementing, monitoring and optimizing project management methodology

    Superior people management skills

  • Develop departmental goals, plans and standards consistent with the technological, clinical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.

  • Plan, organize and direct all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.

  • Prepare departmental budgets and ensure the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.

  • Coordinate and direct internal/external audits.

  • Direct and evaluate all departmental activities including research, design and development of new technologies, service level determination and complaint management.

  • Develop partnership with senior management.

  • Works with other senior managers and senior users in strategic technology issues.

  • Establish strategic direction and oversight in order to ensure that technology resources will be optimized and expenses managed.

What You Will Need


  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree required.

  • Master's degree preferred.

Work Experience:

• 5 years of experience required.• 10 years of experience preferred.• 2 years of leadership or management experience required.• 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred
