You will be responsible for managing the design, planning, implementation, and administration of databases, including security, access, and documentation.

  • Manages database professionals directly or through subordinate managers/supervisors

  • Provides expert guidance, strategic direction, and advice to USPS management to facilitate planning, set direction, define business initiatives, and develop solutions to meet customer information system needs and requirements

  • Provides guidance and solutions to ensure the database needs align with the strategic departmental initiatives

  • May manage the development of database standards, policies, and SOPs and ensures their conformance with the USPS goals and company/customer objectives

  • Manages the development and administration of schedule and performance requirements; ensures budget requirements are met

  • Manages and prioritizes customer database needs; assess project costs and feasibility and operational costs

  • Ensure team provides database technical expertise to system professionals engaged in the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of business information systems

  • Keeps well-informed of new technologies and industry best practices and trends and then plans and advises for implementation

  • Works with internal counterparts and manage vendor relationships for solutions to database problems; works with headquarters on matters related to standards and policies, and with other IS service center organizations and production operations regarding operations and system capabilities

  • Experience leading efforts to automate DBA tasks through various technologies for purposes of increasing work efficiencies and reducing errors

  • Oversees ordering process to effectively and economically meet objectives

  • Manage vendor billing reconciliations

  • Provide expert guidance and oversight to the team in the development and maintenance of procedures for creation, backup, recovery, and re-organization of databases

  • Provide expert guidance and oversight to the team to establish and implement procedures for capturing database management system utilization and performance statistics

  • Provide oversight for the development and implementation of procedures for patching, upgrades, capacity planning, monitoring DBMS integrity, and ensuring corporate and ISSC repositories are updated


  • BA/BS (or equivalent experience)

  • 8+ years of experience in database management

  • Experience managing or supervising a medium to large team or department of multiple disciplines. Medium to High complexity
