Burns & McDonnell Technical Advisory Consultant - Utility Consulting (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
Description
Perform distribution planning studies consisting of load flow, reliability, short circuit, voltage analysis, and protection coordination for electric distribution system.
Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating work efforts with the project manager.
Study efforts will require judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric distribution system planning procedures and criteria.
Apply the standards and practices to improve grid performance and ready the grid for future challenges represented by distributed generation and electrification.
Responsible for teaching and training less experienced engineers with regards to distribution planning studies and evaluations.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Power and Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a directly related field plus three (3) years of planning experience.
One (1) year of experience with the following (experience may be gained concurrently):
Experience with power flow modeling software, including Synergi, CYME, Windmil, SKM, ETAP, or Aspen
Experience with utility electric distribution system planning, design, and operations
Experience with evaluation system performance, simulation of power flows, and developing solutions and upgrades of electric distribution facilities
Experience with load flow, reliability, short circuit, voltage, and outage analysis
Experience providing consulting services to investor owned electric utilities, municipal electric utilities, or electric cooperatives
Experience evaluating non-wire alternative solutions to traditional system reconfiguration
Experience with power system planning and operations
Experience with NERC, FERC, and Regional requirements, policies, and procedures
Will accept a Master’s degree plus one (1) year of planning experience in lieu of Bachelor’s plus three (3) years of planning experience
40 hours/week. 9am - 5pm.
