Summary Description

We currently have an opening for a Product Manager for our Kansas City location. As the Product Manager, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a product roadmap for all software products, both internal and external. NBKC Bank is looking for someone who can lead without formal authority and with the drive necessary to generate cooperation and arbitrate consensus across a variety of needs from business stakeholders. You must have strong business acumen coupled with an ability to work directly with the technology teams that are building software in an ever-changing and growing environment.

In addition to establishing a roadmap and product strategy, the Product Manager will function as a product owner with multiple agile software engineering teams. Familiarity with iterative delivery of end-user value will be important. This role will also be responsible for establishing a team of internal champions to participate in user acceptance testing and early adoption of new and enhanced functionality.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the functional expert for mortgage processing and banking software products and tools that serve a critical role to the strategic growth plan for the organization.

  • Identify the needs of the business by engaging directly with the end users of the software products and tools and act as the “voice of the customer” throughout the software development process.

  • Develop business cases, financial models and return-on-investment analyses for new products and current product enhancements.

  • Continually maintain a prioritized roadmap of new features, enhancements, and software maintenance efforts.

  • Responsible for keeping the CTO/COO and other key leaders informed on the functionality capabilities of software products and advising on opportunities to take components of the software to market.

  • Collaborate directly with technical leadership to make build/buy/partner decisions for desired functionality.

  • Establish a continuous flow of well-groomed epics and user stories in a fast-paced agile environment.

  • Oversee the process of relative estimation of stories and epics and provide necessary business need clarification to software developers and QA testers.

  • Identify and research industry trends

  • Identify opportunities to work with industry partners to bring innovative technology solutions to market.

  • Attend industry tradeshows as an advocate for the business and a seeker of new business opportunities.

  • Contribute towards documents and/or training for end users of software products and tools.

  • Establish and maintain channels for direct user feedback of software issues, desired features, user experience issues and other product needs.

  • Occasional Travel (10%)

  • Responsible for day to day communication with business leaders on software development efforts, progress, ideas and roadmap management. Works with business management to understand and prioritize the efforts of development resources.

  • Follows all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of proven work experience in software product management OR 7+ years of software product management experience without a bachelor’s degree.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership cross-functionally in a growing business without formal authority

  • 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., VP level and above)

  • Dynamic and stimulating technical communicator – both written and verbal

  • Strong instincts on situationally appropriate methods of communication

  • Familiarity with an Agile software development process

  • Ability to understand technical concepts and translate them to the business and vice versa

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Consistent track record in executing, leading and implementing large-scale projects

  • Previous work experience with software delivered on cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon AWS

  • Previous work experience in the financial services industry

  • Previous experience with mortgage software solutions such as Roostify, Encompass, OpenClose

  • Experience with Visual Studio Team Services, JIRA, Rally and/or similar tools
