Are you passionate about technology innovation and working with new product ideas, both onsite with customers and inside product labs? Our Field Solutions team is a global-level group within Splunk that builds repeatable solutions for common scenarios across various Splunk customers. In this role you will work cross-functionally supporting sales, sales engineering, customer success, partners, marketing, and product management, among others. You will imagine new ideas and opportunities, deliver custom solutions with cutting edge technologies and drive new insights into real products. You operate as a researcher, leader, developer and subject matter expert developing solutions using the full capabilities of the Splunk platform.
This particular position will focus primarily on envisioning, building, and maintaining field solutions for Observability including Kubernetes, microservices, GCP, Azure, AWS, application performance monitoring (APM), OpenTelemetry and more. The trio of logs, traces and metrics will be center stage for this role. While this role will focus on delivery of new field solutions, each individual on our team contributes in a number of other functional areas as well. These can include evangelism, technical enablement, and working directly with Splunk customers, partners and prospects to implement sophisticated solutions.
This role can be located anywhere in the world. At least 20% travel should be expected when it is safe to do so. You will build solutions for use across all of Splunk’s customers and partners, globally.
We are looking for an individual who is outstanding at communicating at an executive level as a trusted advisor, as well as executing on a deep technical level with IT professionals. You should be able to operate inside organizations autonomously to build and implement beta and early release software and ensure accurate feedback on product usage reaches Splunk Engineering. This is a team that is in regular motion. You might, on any given day:
Provide expert industry knowledge internally to Splunk teams and partners on Observability related products, processes and technologies including Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack), CI/CD, SRE, Open Telemetry and more.
Write code to onboard or manipulate a particularly exciting data source, or to build an entire add-on or enhancement to our core or premium products.
Build applications to visualize data and tell a story that solves a common business problem.
Integrate solutions and data from various sources to solve customer needs.
Work with an external or internal partner to up-level their app or technical add on.
Help a technical sales resource execute a specific portion of a particularly challenging evaluation, with your hands on the keyboard.
Present at an external conference or an internal event on Splunk-relevant topics.
Contribute a blog post to our external blog site detailing solutions that you have built.
Help craft the direction of Splunk’s business through decisions about organic product roadmap or inorganic acquisition.
File an enhancement or bug report about issues you have found in our products.
These are just a few examples – but representative of our typical cadence! A flexible and creative approach is absolutely required in this position – you will be given guidance, mentorship and support, but never be told exactly what to do, and how to do it.
Up-to-date understanding of current patterns and practices in the Observability and DevOps landscape.
Familiarity with modern SDLC methodologies (version control using git, CI/CD pipelines, application security standard methodologies) ITOps and Observability/DevOps practitioner a plus.
Familiarity with cloud-native serverless architectures.
Expert understanding of an Open-Tracing/OpenTelemetry functionality.
Portfolio of public-facing materials: repositories, whitepapers, blogs, presentations, training materials you have authored.
Ability to communicate concisely and accurately with no fear of public speaking to audiences large and small.
Ability to work remotely and across multiple time zones with a minimum of daily supervision. Self-starter is important.
MUST be already located in the U.S. (we are not able to offer relocation or immigration /transfer for this specific role).
Ability to travel 20% within the US and Canada.
Bachelor’s degree in something related to technology preferred, Masters or equivalent a plus.
