The time is right to join HNTB Corporation! HNTB is currently seeking a Graphic Design Manager to join the Corporate Communications team in Kansas City, MO. This position is a member of the corporate communications and brand stewardship team, working to support the vision and strategic growth of the firm by designing graphics and maintaining production related to communications projects. Types of graphics projects include collateral, publications, PowerPoint presentations, email marketing, direct marketing pieces and special projects. This position also oversees and manages the firm’s national photography program, including working with photographers to capture assets used in marketing efforts, public relations, social media and other business development efforts. The overall objective of this role is to communicate concepts or deliver a message by using graphic design skills, within budget in the most effective and efficient way.

Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates the production of graphics materials for promotional and informational presentations and programs, coordinating use of specialized vendor services when required.

Essential Responsibility

  • Provides direction and mentoring to team members. Serves as senior expert and consultant to the group. Advises less experienced staff on a variety of situations and issues that involve applying or adapting new techniques.

  • Undertakes complex projects requiring additional specialized technical knowledge.

  • Manages production of various communications projects. Recommends new approaches and participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures to produce continual improvements. Interacts with customers to determine requirements and needs, and schedules and prioritizes work for the group.

  • Supervises and participates in the design and preparation of reports, exhibits, illustrations, displays, pamphlets and other visual media. Approves and may help determine the specifications, themes, ideas, concepts, and methods to be used in producing graphic and pictorial presentations for materials.

  • Selects, coordinates, and negotiates purchase and/or contract of services of outside studios, vendors, engravers, art services, etc., including approving invoices for services purchased.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

• Performs graphic design and layout on a wide range of communications projects, including direct mail, publications, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word newsletters, email marketing and other templates

• Works with internal project managers and department’s lead designer to determine project needs and recommend effective graphic solutions for meeting communications objectives

• Oversees project photography and has the ability to correct photo files when available

• Designs and coordinates graphics used in email marketing and social media platforms

• Supports efforts to maintain firm’s awareness of the HNTB brand standards

• Works directly with outside graphics and production vendors/partners to complete and deliver communications projects as needed

• Requests detailed and accurate cost estimates from freelance graphic artists and photographers as needed

• Ensures all materials are produced to the internal client’s specifications while supporting the HNTB brand and visual identity system

• Keeps projects on schedule as agreed upon with client

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Art, Graphic Design or related degree

7 years related experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

Sufficient professional experience in managing all facets of a print production process

2 years AEC industry experience

Familiarity of or experience working with corporate brand standards

Knowledge of professional photography standards

Superior interpersonal and communications skills

Must be a self-starter, with the initiative to manage multiple projects and competing priorities, and problem solve when necessary

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications (including Word), and ability to work with graphics in various platforms, including email marketing (MailChimp, Campaign Monitor), video, HTML and SharePoint



General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
