Job Summary

The Water Division of AECOM is actively seeking a motivated, highly talented GIS Specialist for immediate employment in the Kansas City, MO office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software to produce, display, and analyze geographic information relation to floodplain mapping. Our department uses spatial data, LiDAR and the latest 1D/2D modeling software to identify flooding hazards in communities across the nation. The successful candidate will work side by side with a team of engineers and GIS professionals that develop cutting edge processes to deliver high quality flood hazard information to the client and the local communities in a timely and efficient manner.

As GIS Specialist in AECOM’s Kansas City, MO Water Division, you will:

  • Develop and maintain databases, reports, and mapping

  • Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes

  • Follow prescribed schema and technical references for organization of data

  • Perform quality assurance (including self-QC) of GIS data and associated graphic components

  • Use concepts, practices and procedures to extract and provide GIS data to clients

  • Produce maps, reports and databases to communicate the results of flood hazard analyses to industry professionals, public officials and the public

Minimum Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Working knowledge with ArcGIS and other GIS databases

  • Knowledge of the FEMA NFIP and related industry tools and platforms such as:

  • MIP (Mapping Information Platform)

  • DVT (Database Verification Tool)

  • CNMS (Coordinated Needs Management Strategy)

  • Attention to detail and focus on quality work based on industry and client standards

  • Experience with database applications (Oracle, SQL Server, MS Access)

  • Ability to use and develop advanced tools within the GIS software platforms

  • Due to the nature of this position, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Geography or a related discipline

  • 4+ Experience preferred

  • Desire to succeed in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment

  • GISP

  • CFM
