Burns & McDonnell Assistant GIS Specialist in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

Burns & McDonnell’s Environmental Services practice is seeking an entry-level (0 to 2 years professional experience) Assistant GIS Specialist for its Kansas City, Missouri office location. This position will involve:

  • Map production in accordance with standards and industry best practices using ArcGIS software

  • Preparation and use of GIS data for analysis

  • GIS data conversion/migration

  • Editing and creating GIS data in a geodatabase environment

  • Developing and supporting GIS workflows

  • Researching and preparing environmental reports and assessments

  • Field surveys as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, capable of working independently, and able to collaborate in a team setting and have strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, or closely related natural science field from accredited program required.

  • Familiarity and prior experience (1 to 2 years) working in the ArcGIS software environment is required (ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or higher and ArcGIS Pro a plus)

  • Experience creating custom geoprocessing workflows in Model Builder, Python, and FME is highly preferred

  • Excellent GIS skills, including data analysis abilities, cartography experience, and familiarity with field collection applications a plus

  • Prior experience working with Lidar datasets a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite

  • Prior GPS and applicable natural science field experience a plus.
