Technical Writer

Location: Jefferson City, Missouri

Duration: 4/30/19 w/ potential extensions

Essential Responsibilities:

• Independently support three or more products using standard technical writing methods

• Network with and lead discussions with subject matter experts, developers, product managers, project managers, quality assurance, business analysts, and others to support those products

• Independently coordinate all aspects of the assigned documentation--including delivery schedule, and preparation of documentation plans and work estimates

• Mentor less-experienced writers as needed

• Build strong, collaborative relationships with other areas within the company where necessary

• Work with assigned product teams to determine schedules and deliverables

• Provide time estimates to assigned product teams based on project scope provided by Product Management

Required Professional and Technical Expertise:

• Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Information Sciences or a related field

• Minimum five years of experience as a technical writer

• Working familiarity with State Medicaid systems and data, Program Integrity solutions, Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, analytics

• Demonstrated writing skills and an enthusiasm for creating concise user documentation

• High attention to detail

• Ability to produce grammatically and typographically correct documentation that complies with the style that exists in the established documentation set

• Demonstrated ability to index complex documentation sets

• Demonstrated effective visual design skills (use of white space, illustrations and graphics)

• Demonstrated understanding of accepted technical writing concepts, standards, and methods, such as would be acquired in a formal Technical Writing degree or certificate program

• Demonstrated ability to produce work that is consistent with corporate or professional style guides such as Microsoft Manual of Style

• Demonstrated knowledge of information architecture as it pertains to help system concepts such as workflow, context-sensitive help, minimalism, usability, etc

• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Demonstrated ability to identify, access, and maintain professional relationships with subject matter experts, product teams, and other members of the technical writing group

• Demonstrated ability to step into a project and provide support when needed by other technical writers with a minimum of supervision

• Proven problem-solving skills, especially as it pertains to the development of new and more efficient processes and tools to produce help systems

• Proven familiarity with Technical Writing concepts and tool currency

• Strong customer focus

• Mastery of Microsoft Office tools, especially Word and Excel

• Familiarity with version control systems and SharePoint

• Strong experience with graphics tools, screen capture and manipulation of graphics
