Effectively manages internal and external client relationships as well as manages vendor relationships where needed.


The Maritz Cross-Business Research Team conducts approximately 300 studies per year in support of the design, sale, operation, evaluation, and retention of Maritz Division/Company client business. In addition, the team may be utilized by Maritz for overall internal research and analysis needs (Voice of the Employee, internal service quality, event feedback, business transformation projects, etc.).

With minimal management oversight, the research manager represents, owns and operates all stages of research project operation on our jointly-developed research products and custom research solutions. The research manager works effectively in a small team environment--demonstrating independence in professionally managing/operating multiple projects while demonstrating willingness to be a team player and assist other team members, as needed.

The Research Manager may also contribute in an analytical role on special projects as requested by management.

No direct reports. No budgetary responsibility.

Reporting and Working Relationships

Reports to Director, Research Services. Works closely with operations and sales staff (internal clients) and external client contacts in the development and delivery of research services. Interacts/coordinates with other Cross-Business Research Team members, coordinates with other Maritz entities and contracted Marketing Sciences professionals (when needed), and manages vendor relationships.

Primary Responsibilities


Analysis, Interpretation and Reporting: Responsible for the data collection process of projects assigned, conducts a variety of basic analytical techniques, engages/interacts with Maritz management and contracted Marketing Sciences professionals where appropriate for advanced analytical techniques, interprets/reports information, leads results discussions, and makes recommendations to facilitate management/client decision making.


Intake and Design: Works with senior staff, Business account team members and clients in identifying and clarifying research/analysis objectives. With senior staff guidance, ensures appropriate research/analysis methodologies and instruments to meet objectives. Depending on project scope, utilize web survey tools for survey programming.


Project Management: Develops and manages research/analysis projects including budget development, cost, scheduling and quality. Responsible for coordinating and communicating with the client, vendors and account team.


  1. Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of research industry experience in a business environment required. MMR/MA/MBA and 3 years of business research experience strongly preferred.

  2. Ad-hoc/custom research experience in a business environment required.

  3. Demonstrated quantitative design experience, including demonstrated success in assessing a situation/needs, then writing/creating instrument (surveys, guides, etc.) content to meet those needs as appropriate to the collection medium (web, paper, phone, etc.). While statistical experts are engaged to co-develop portions of survey content utilizing advanced statistical methods, knowledge of how advanced analytical methods might contribute to effective design, and when those statistical experts should be engaged, is also the research manager’s responsibility.

  4. Demonstrated analytical skills, including intermediate competency in univariate and commonly used multivariate techniques (correlation/driver analysis, differences/variance testing, etc.) and competence interpreting/explaining/reporting results run by statistical experts from advanced multivariate techniques (conjoint, cluster, regression, etc.). 5. Above average writing skills, both mechanically and per accurate, easy-to-understand interpretation and presentation of research information.

  5. Topic experience in incentive group travel, meeting, rewards, recognition, and/or incentives helpful but not required. Audience experience with employee and/or channel environments strongly preferred.

  6. Demonstrated competency in software necessary to operate a research project start to finish, including intermediate or higher Microsoft Office skills, intermediate or higher SPSS statistical software skills, and at least some experience programming surveys using a web survey software solution.
