Software Engineering Manager
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Software Engineering Manager, are to:
Lead multiple teams of developers and provide technical direction on software development including code and architecture design reviews, debugging, and mentoring team members to increase overall technical knowledge and team capacity;
Drive the development and implementation of enterprise-class software to enable a larger, smarter, and more connected pipeline;
Supervise execution of software development, testing, and software documentation;
Have an understanding of breeding’s needs and work directly with end users, Product Owners, Platform Leads, and Delivery personnel;
Coach, mentor, have a regular employee 1x1s, and develop careers as this is a people management position;
Contribute to a strategic technology roadmap;
Work with other Software Development Leads to ensure solutions created are compatible across APC and integrate with Enterprise IT where applicable;
Help build a culture of empowered software engineers.
Domestic Relaocation in the form of a lump sum payment is available.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 years of relevant work experience OR Master’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant work experience;
At least seven years of SDLC experience;
At least three years of experience managing software engineers;
Strong technical background with understanding of full-stack development, with emphasis on backend development (APIs, desktop, SaaS, OnPremises, database, process flow);
Knowledgeable across multiple programming languages;
Experience with debugging, performance profiling and optimization;
Comprehensive understanding of object-oriented/functional and service-oriented application development techniques and theories;
Experience with source control management systems and continuous integration/deployment environments;
Strong background in IT management, project management and process improvement;
Effective verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent organizational and record keeping skills, and the ability to foster a positive team environment.
