Oracle Site Reliability Developer 3 in Chesterfield, Missouri
Solve complex problems related to infrastructure cloud services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Design, write, and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle products and services. Design and develop designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems. Facilitate service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning.
Work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team on the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas. Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. Responsible for the design and delivery of the mission critical stack, with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. Authority for end-to-end performance and operability. Partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture. Articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas and guide Development Teams to engineer and add premier capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. Understand and communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of the service and technology stack. Demonstrate clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles. Act as ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Utilize a deep understanding of service topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. Understand and explain the affect of product architecture decisions on distributed systems. Professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of services and technologies.
A BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent. Identifies solutions to knowledge of server hardware and software configuration, networking, standard internet services, scripting languages, cloud computing patterns, technology security and compliance. Experience running large scale customer facing web services. Identifies solutions to understanding of load balancing technologies and experience with development in programming languages, databases and big data stores, and container technologies. Work involves defining and documenting technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products. A minimum of 5 years experience of running large scale customer facing web services.

Description of the Role: What would the candidate work on if s/he joined your team?
On this team, you will incorporate the ethos of software engineering and apply it to large-scale operations problems. Your primary goals are to create highly reliable and ultra-scalable software systems to manage the operations of our services. When not working on operations, you will be working on software engineering tasks such as design and development of systems that increase our reliability, scalability and reduce operational overhead through automation. The ideal candidate would be a proficient programmer who has large breadth of knowledge and experience including areas such as networking, internet protocols and Linux systems. You will be expected to be a close partner with service owners in all aspects of service operations and ownership. Drive platform maturity for multi-user collaboration and planning experiences, data pipelines, data integrations, API services and other data distribution services
Managing and triaging tickets. Driving prioritization and execution of work based on impact
Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms such as easy to use tooling and automation.
Work in concert with service developers to evolve systems/products for better scalability, reliability and development velocity
Drive new runbooks to help reduce mean triage time of incidents. Prioritize and automate high hit count runbooks
Practice sustainable incident response and drive root cause analysis
Monitor and enforce SLAs
Develop deployment pipelines, drive and constantly improve deployment process in public cloud environment
Provide ongoing assessment of solutions usage to determine feature updates and deprecation
BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding or equivalent practical experience
Understanding of Linux operating systems and Linux system administration
Strong understanding of Linux/Unix commands
Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership and drive
Deep understand of service metrics and alarms through the development of dashboards, service KPIs, alarming systems
Experience working in an operational environment with mission critical tier one services with associated pager duty
Experience in SDN, NFV, Cloud Networking
Experience working with large cloud platforms like OpenStack, AWS, Azure, GCP
Experience building and operationalizing highly available, scalable, reliable and automated tooling experiences through multiple project cycles
Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous situations across organizational boundaries
